Have you ever wanted to learn the art and sport of sailing? I’ve heard so many stories about so many amazing sailing adventures, and I long to try out my sea legs. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people who don’t know how to tie more than five knots. The closest I get to looking like a sailor are a pair of orange topsiders that I wear, and am subsequently made fun…every…time…I wear them. Rightly so. They’re hideous. Hideously comfortable.
Are you feeling me? Would you like to hit the open seas with a little more control and freedom than you experience on a Carnival Cruise Liner? Would you like to learn to sail while on vacation?
The American Sailing Association (ASA) is docking in Clearwater, Florida, for 2010′s American Sailing Week, where there will be great opportunities to learn all aspects of sailing, while enjoying the vacation of a lifetime.
This “learn to sail” vacation is great for individuals, couples, families, experienced and inexperienced sailors and comes in at a price of $1,195/person. The price is a little out of the spare change range, however, it comes with more sailing activity than you could possibly shake a stick at, and is combined with suite style accommodations at the local Marriott Sand Key Resort.
The American Sailing Week adventure will take place on September 10 – 17, 2010. That’s Friday to Friday. Days will include sailing instruction, sailing on a variety of boats from dinghies to keel boats, races, land-based educational opportunities, including classes and clinics. Breakfasts and lunches will be served while sailing.
One afternoon will be devoted to cruising to a local island for a beach bash, and a separate BBQ extravaganza will be hosted as a pirate-themed costume party. C’mon now! Say it with me: Y’RRRR! You won’t want to miss the welcome party to kick the week off, or the farewell party, boasting potential prizes for attendees.
In terms of accommodations, you can take advantage of everything the resort offers, as well as nearby attractions. There are several restaurants, bars and shops nearby, as well as sites such as the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and Edgemont Key. For those willing to book this trip early (by July 15), you can score an additional ASA Marriott discount book.
If your appetite for adventure has been primed by such an opportunity, yet you don’t think you can roll out the 1200 bones, welcome to the Independence Day weekend Deal of the Day BONUS! The ASA is giving away a trip for two for this amazing adventure through an online sweepstakes, and you can enter to win at the Association’s website.
If interested in booking, simply contact Marriott directly at 888.303.4428 and state that you’re looking to reserve a slot for the “ASA Members Week 2010.” Memberships to the ASA can also be purchased at the site, and can be purchased as an individual or family, beginning at $39/annually.
